Blue Wenallt

In Stock

Blue Wenallt is a new cheese developed by Hannah Turner from Brooke’s Dairy in the Wye Valley. Hannah uses milk from her family farm’s herd of Jersey cows to make this rich, creamy blue, which puts us in mind of a Welsh Gorgonzola.

Hannah’s parents, Robert and Irene, started farming in east Wales over 30 years ago. They originally used all of their Jersey milk for the ice creams and sorbets that they make on the farm, but when their daughter Hannah joined the business she was keen to see if the milk would make good cheese. Luckily it did! Hannah’s first cheese, Angiddy, is similar to Brie in style, with a golden yellow centre. The newer Blue Wenallt has been a few years in development and the effort has paid off. It’s a wonderful addition to the great range of blue cheeses made here in Wales.

Blue Wenallt is made in 250g wheels.

Brooke’s Dairy

Brooke’s Dairy

Established in 1991 by Robert and Irene Brooke, Brooke's Dairy has been creating artisan ice creams and sorbets for over 30 years, using milk produced on the farm. The farm is in the heart of the Wye Valley, where plentiful sun and rain create perfect conditions for the top quality grass enjoyed by the Brookes’ small herd of beautiful Jersey cows.

Milk from Jersey cows is famed for its golden colour and rich, creamy taste. It's perfect for luxurious ice cream and, of course, Angiddy, which is being handmade on the farm by Robert and Irene’s daughter Hannah.

Angiddy is a mould ripened soft cheese, similar in style to a Brie or Camembert. The milk used to make it gives the cheese not just a lovely golden colour and fresh flavour, but also an addictive tang which is memorable and moreish, earning Angiddy a Silver award at the Royal Welsh Show 2017 in the ‘New Cheese’ category.
