Our Story

I’m Tom Pinder, founder of The Welsh Cheese Company.

Our aim is to be a showcase for some of the best artisan cheese makers in the country. It seems to us that the talent and hard work they put into their craft sometimes goes unsung here in Wales, so we’re trying to change that by bringing their incredible cheeses together under one roof.

About The Welsh Cheese Company

My passion for cheese was first sparked as a child.  Growing up in the 1980s, I was a regular visitor to a small dairy farm down the road from our house, where the farmer and his wife produced the most mouth-wateringly sharp farmhouse cheddar. I have a vivid memory of the milking parlour in the corner of the farmyard and the shed with a rows of giant cheddar truckles that would be hauled down and cut for us. We’d then take it home and my mum would make the most amazing mac and cheese with it, which is still among the most delicious things I’ve ever tasted!

In recent years my work life has been more in music than in food. I’ve been lucky enough to spend a lot of the last fifteen years or so touring Europe and the wider world with various bands, as well as, closer to home, playing with Welsh football supporters’ band The Barry Horns.

I’d like to be able to say that I spent every minute of my touring years on a tireless quest to find the world’s finest cheeses, but that wouldn’t be strictly true. However the time away from home did give me an even greater appreciation of the wonderful people and produce that we have here on our doorstep in Wales.
